Timeline
Opening a branch: a monthly backlink service or orders by week?
The new branch opens in twelve weeks. Here is what we would do each week, and why a flat monthly backlink service rarely fits the shape of the work.
Twelve weeks, in the order the work really happens
Build the page
Address or service area, hours, team, photos from the site, a map embed. Publish it, then check indexing in Search Console.
Fix the profile
Create or verify the Business Profile and make name, address and phone match the page letter for letter.
Set the baseline
Note impressions, the rival's referring domains in Ahrefs or Semrush, and today's position. Write the numbers down.
First order
Two links to this page only, from donors near the region. Expect most to be live within about 24 hours.
Leave it alone
Google needs time to crawl and weigh new links. Use the time for reviews and photos instead.
First read
Compare impressions with the baseline. A rise in queries is the first signal, before clicks.
Decide on a second batch
If the page moves, add one or two more. If not, look at the text, not at the budget.
Why twelve weeks, and not four
Local pages are slow. Google needs to crawl the page, tie it to a profile and watch the signals settle. A month is too short to read anything. Twelve weeks is a fair test.
The order of work matters more than the speed. Page first, profile second, links third. Reverse it and you pay for links that point at a half-built page, which is a bad day for everyone.
If the opening date is fixed by a lease, count backwards from it. For the choice of landing URL, use the franchise decision tree, and keep the glossary handy for the terms.
Keep one log. Just a date, a URL, a donor, a price. Without it, week 10 becomes guesswork, and guesswork is how a $100 test turns into a $1,000 habit.
Opening in a new country or language? Add two weeks. Donors, spelling and local search habits all change, and Search Console data for a fresh page arrives slowly.
Why we are not fond of the flat monthly plan
A monthly backlink service sells the same amount every month. That is the whole trick. Real branch work comes in lumps: heavy before an opening, nothing for weeks after. A flat fee pays for the quiet months too.
There are fair uses. A single-address clinic with steady content may like a steady drip, and a retainer buys someone's attention as well as links. If that is the point, say so and price it as such.
Our model is the opposite. You top up a balance and spend it per placement, from $1 to about $500 each, with no subscription. Months with no opening cost nothing.
Hypothetical budget for one opening
| Item | Amount | When |
|---|---|---|
| Two links to the new page | About $30 to $60 | Week 6 |
| Optional second batch | About $30 to $60 | Week 12, only if needed |
| Reserve | About $40 | Held back |
| Total | About $100 to $160 | Whole quarter |
Week-10 read: what to look at
- Impressions for the page in Search Console, compared with week 5.
- New queries that mention the town or the street.
- The rival's referring domains, still from the same tool as before.
- Whether the page is still indexed and still the canonical one.
